Lars Wallner, Autumn 2008

Introduction People have dreams; desires for a better your life, another community, an escape via reality. It is sometimes these dreams that motivate us, that will make us struggle, that continue to keep us going. But is the fact all they may be? What if the dreams were something more? What if we could realise individuals dreams and go into all of them? As a copy writer of the late 19th, early on 20th century, Herbert George Wells (1866-1946) was hugely productive, and published numerous short stories, novels and scientific as well as political documents. Unlike many authors of his time, Wells did not keep to 1 theme although produced testimonies of different makes. He wrote fairy stories, science fictional works, fantasy works of fiction and reasonable novels, and some times utilized several different genres in the same stories. This is when the commonalities end as well as the differences begin. For, though seemingly similar, these tales differ from the other person and even though the structure from the stories plus the settings from the dream realms might, at a first glimpse, seem very similar, there is a lot more here than meets the eye. This essay intends to exhibit that, although similar in many ways, there is a difference between " Mr Skelmersdale” and " The Door” and " A Dream” when it comes to the message plus the outcome. This will be shown by reviewing three different facets of the 3 stories: the description from the dreamland itself and how this compares to the real world of the main character; the lining struggle of the protagonist, their very own ultimate decision and the implications of this choice; and finally what message mcdougal wants to present to the target audience with the final result of the tale. There will end up being an evaluation of the...
